SUMMARY:Cyrano de Bergerac
DESCRIPTION:Cold Frame Collective Presents Edmund Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac\, adapted for the stage by Anthony Burgess. \nCyrano de Bergerac tells the story of a talented poet and swordsman named Cyrano\, who is self-conscious about his large nose. Despite his bravery and wit\, Cyrano believes his appearance makes him unworthy of love\, especially the love of his beautiful and intelligent cousin\, Roxane. Instead of confessing his feelings\, he helps a handsome but inarticulate soldier\, Christian\, woo Roxane by providing him with eloquent love letters and speeches. The play explores themes of inner versus outer beauty\, unrequited love\, and the nature of true heroism. The story has been adapted countless times across various media\, highlighting its enduring appeal.

SUMMARY:Native Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Native Gardens is a contemporary comedy play by Karen Zacarías that explores themes of cultural conflict\, generational differences\, and the clash between tradition and progress. Set in a suburban neighborhood\, the story centers around two couples: Pablo and Tania Del Valle\, a young Latino couple who have recently moved in\, and their next-door neighbors\, Frank and Virginia Butley\, an older white couple with a meticulously maintained garden. Tensions rise when a disagreement over a property line and landscaping choices escalates into a humorous yet thought-provoking battle that exposes deeper issues of race\, privilege\, and the complexities of modern coexistence. Through sharp wit and insightful dialogue\, the play highlights the challenges and potential for understanding in a diverse society. \nProduced by Skydome Stage Company & Sterling Stage Austin

SUMMARY:Roaring Reading with The Archive Theater
DESCRIPTION:First out of the gate this year\, we’re presenting a workshop version of a new play called Roaring written by Kathleen Fletcher and Directed by Trace Turner. Roaring explores the life of Mary Frith\, a.k.a. Moll Cutpurse\, a fascinating late Elizabethan performer and actor who defied gender norms and was immortalized in The Roaring Girl by Shakespearean contemporaries. Known for being one of the first “women” on the Elizabethan stage\, they were famous for their male attire\, comic and musical showmanship\, seedy shenanigans\, and bold defiance of societal norms. This rollicking play will be produced as a costumed staged reading with live music in early July and then as a full production in the spring of 2025. Join us at the tavern in July and explore a different side of Shakespeare’s London.

SUMMARY:Queer Cryptids Returns!
DESCRIPTION:Moonlight casts strange shadows on the forest floor\, some comfortingly familiar\, and others…less so. A jackalope darts across a starlit clearing. The swamp shifts around a mysterious shape. And…is that a pair of pants? \nVelvet Nox returns to our beloved Queer Cryptids on June 8th\, now with even more cryptidness! \nGlimpsed but rarely seen complete\, creatures of all configurations come out of the shadows for one night to share their full glory on this stage. Obscure creatures of dream and legend and nightmare emerge in the spotlight and tell us their stories through burlesque\, pole dance\, and some truly unsettling gyrations. \nAllies and fellow cryptids are welcome.
